    Quoted from mikeflstfi:

Here's what I have, based on recommendations I read here, and I just used it this weekend to repin all the .156" connectors on my displays. It worked great.

    Quoted from sullivcd40:

Ordered, $20 is a decent price too. Good riddance Waldoms!

I use the same tool, and it works great. I do find that after crimping, it "rounds" the pin slightly so it doesn't always slide into the connector smoothly. Lightly flexing it back straight just by a hair lets it slide and lock into the connector housing much easier.

They don't show the SN48B doing molex pins though. They look big, especially for .100 terminals.

This set may be more appropriate: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/hardware/hand-tools/sn-28b-crimping-tool-plier-0-25-1-mm-for-awg-28-18.html

Out of stock at the moment but these here nippers would be in the cart too: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/hardware/hand-tools/wire-cable-cutting-pliers-tool.html Hard to beat for a buck and a half.

I have both the cheap and also oem molex made by Sargent.
I highly recommend getting the sargent in all sizes
    .100 .156 .093 .062

    They make perfect crimps

Rather then start a new thread I'll bring this one back to life, my apologies in advance.

I purchased the Sargent 3136CT (Waldom 2445-A)some years ago and have been so frustrated with it that I never used it. I recently found it again and thought it's time to swallow my pride and ask what I'm doing wrong with such a simple tool.

I'm using Molex 2447 series, 08-50-0072 , .156 connectors and the aforementioned crimp tool but for the life of me I can not get the crimp to fully seat into the locator block.

Its like the locator block just isn't deep enough to allow the crimp to fully go in and line up correctly.

According to the literature, these should work.

I can take the locator block off if need be but that's not the point.

Does anybody know what I'm missing?

Well......I have never had a locator block on any of mine so I'm guessing that's the problem. Remove it and set the bottom of your pin flush with the front of the crimper. Then I ratchet the crimper closed just enough the hold the pin. Strip the wire and put it in. The insulation on the wire catches on the second crimp and sets the wire for a perfect crimp every time.

I appreciate the run down but let me clarify a little. I can use the tool without the locator block and as you indicated, I have plenty that don't have it.

What I'm confused about is the actual usage of the block. Why include if it doesn't work? My assumption is that I'm missing something since surely they wouldn't include it for fun.

perry1670 Is it possible you don't have the right block on there? Mine says 7180-2 on the back.
Should look like this when open.

And with a pin in the block. This is the same part number pin you're using. Even trifurcon pins fit ok.

I'll have to look at the block numbering (not home now).

I did play with it awhile back and found that it works fine if you are crimping round Molex connections but not the .156.

Hmm ok looked a little closer at the second picture. I'll report back.

I'll have to do some research but you block # is slightly different then mine.

Mine is 7810-1 , which could explain the difference in depth.

    Just get a $20 ratcheting crimper. 100%

Mystery solved! Thanks CaffeineSlug for the info!

I contacted Sargent to see if it was just me or a tool issue and as it turns out it had the wrong Locator Block installed. 7180-2 is the correct block number 7180-1 won't work. They graciously sent a replacement.

The block in the left is the -2 and will easily fit the .156 connector.
